Although, Clarissa and Septimus are both unhappy the basis for their unhappiness stems from different reasons and/or events that have happened in their lives. Clarissa Dalloway, a middle hoary upper class woman, is unhappy because of choices she has do in her life she besides fears that she can not feel things as others do. Septimus Smith, a World War I veteran, is unhappy because of effects of the war.
